"Stop, Girl" acrylic on 9x12 Canvas!
✨️Trigger Warning✨️
This piece was experimental for me. The other day I just wanted my thoughts to shut up, but they just kept going. Sometimes to quiet the intrusive things that flit through my mind, I have to practice breathing and focus on something peaceful to get my mind off of certain subjects that do not represent who I am as a person. These intrusive thoughts can often lead to inappropriate sexual urges, hurting myself or others, or just being generally self destructive. Being a human is already difficult enough, and when these whispers of the dark corners of my mind start barreling out, I just want it to stop. The squiggles of paint coming out of the head are these thought tendrils that snake their way out, and sometimes it can be exhausting to address them in a healthy way, especially more so when this year was one of the toughest years of my life as I'm shifting into new territory. The title itself is even a nod to my favorite movie of women's mental health "Girl, Interrupted". It feels nice knowing I'm truly not alone though, and it is widely a shared experience.
